Lovey-Dovey Patio Pigeon Party
Thursday 28 July 2016 — Category: Shooting
Over the past year or so I have seen birds from the Columbidae family in my backyard, as I have documented in my past articles Another European Visitor and The Mystery of the Dead Dove.
Even though I’m a Byrd, I don’t know that much about my feathered friends, so I’ll leave it to the bird experts to decide if my visitors are doves or pigeons.
This morning as I looked out my bedroom window I was amazed and delighted to see a semi-flock of such birds on my backyard patio. Usually I see them pecking around in pairs, but five all at once was unusual.
For the first picture to the right I shot through the double-paned window, for two reasons. First of all, I was afraid that if I opened the window it would scare away these very skittish birds. Second, even if the window were open, I still would not have been able to get the camera high enough to photograph over the edge of the roof under my window.
I don’t like shooting through a window, especially double-paned glass, because it reduces the image quality. So after I had the first shot, I gently opened the window and took some more photos. But as I just mentioned, at that angle I was not able to get all five birds in the frame at the same time. But it was a good opportunity for a close-up. As always, you can click on the pictures on this page to see larger versions, which have been added to the Homemade Images 2016 album.
