A Thanksgiving-Day Blog Progress Report
Thursday 26 November 2015 — Category: Miscellaneous
On this Thanksgiving Day, I’m taking a few moments to look at where my Photo Blog has been this year, where it is now, and where it is going.
During the past five years I have written 65 articles about my nearly-one-hundred photo outings all over Oregon. For those excursions I had consistently avoided the city, focusing almost exclusively on the wilds of Oregon.
For various reasons, my photographic interests took a radical turn this year. In an amazing reversal, during 2015 I have almost completely avoided nature and have focused pretty much exclusively on the unnatural beauty of Portland. Against all odds, I have become positively passionate about Portland! You can read my introduction to this infatuation in A Country Bumpkin in the Big City.
So far this year I have gone on 22 photo outings to Portland, resulting in 30 articles and 22 photo albums. In addition, by a strange chain of events, these Portland outings have also resulted in a new-found passion for adventure in the kitchen, as I recounted in Making Pretzels At Home.
Since August 1st, I have posted 36 articles about cooking and food, but only one article about Portland! Has the flame of culinary adventure sucked all the oxygen out of my fiery desire for Portland? Judging by this massive article imbalance, it would appear so.
However, judging by appearances can often lead to erroneous conclusions. Unfortunately, there are not enough hours in a day for me to follow all of my passions equally.
The sad reality is that I have a huge backlog of photos from 10 of those 22 Portland photo outings, dating as far back as July 8th. Once these pictures have been sifted and edited, there will be 12 new albums of Portland photos, and at least that many articles elaborating on those outings and images.
It is going to take a long time for me to get caught up! The two photos on this page are just a tiny sample of the many interesting ones I will be presenting in the months to come. In addition, during that time I will still be experimenting (and taking pictures) in the kitchen, and I will still be going on a limited number of photo outings to Portland.
Well, I sure have my work cut out for me. But for today, I will take it easy and enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with my family. My backlog of photos will still be there tomorrow!

Boy! At first I thought it was two pictures of Paris, the Eiffel Tower and a Jihadist!
