A Mother's Day Orchid
Sunday 11 May 2014   —   Category: Shooting
My mom asked my daughter to buy my wife a nice orchid for Mother’s Day.

Before it was presented to her, I snuck it into my home office, which sometimes serves for a makeshift photography studio, so the plant could pose for me.

As I was pondering how to light it, the idea came to me to have a strong backlight which would give the flowers a translucent glow. Add to that some fill light from the side, and voilà!

I’m happy with how it turned out. What do you think? Leave your comments below. And happy Mother’s Day!

My Mom wrote: Brian, I'm so glad you took a picture of the orchid. Your cousin Cindi gave me one for Mother's Day also, but a different kind of orchid. I like the way you lit the orchid, it makes it really stand out. Thanks Joanne for picking up the orchid for me, you did a great job.
