Stormy Sunset Rainbow
Thursday 26 September 2013   —   Category: Shooting
Early last evening I happened to walk by my north-facing bedroom window when I was arrested by a captivating sight, which you can see in the photo to the right. I quickly ran back to my office across the hall and grabbed my new Fujifilm FinePix F900EXR pocket camera.

I took about a dozen shots over as many minutes, then imported the resulting RAW images into Adobe Lightroom. After some comparing and consideration, I chose this image — which you can click on to see larger — as the best representative of the series.

The Fujifilm F900 performed well under the trying circumstance of shooting at an angle through a double-paned window. I chose that camera instead of my beloved Olympus OM-D E-M5 for two reasons. First, I haven’t used my new F900 very much, so this was a good opportunity to try it out some more. Second, I wasn’t sure which focal lengths I might need, and I didn’t want to bother with changing lenses on the E-M5 because the rapidly-changing conditions might cause the beauty of the scene to fade quickly. Snooze (or change lenses) you lose — been there, done that!

I really like this shot because it combines the cool colors of the background storm clouds with the warm colors of the sunset-tinged foreground clouds. The glowing rainbow makes it even more special, and the trees along the two edges add a nice touch. All in all I am very pleased and satisfied. The Fujifilm F900 came through with flying rainbow colors!
