Great White Pelicans At Oso Flaco Lake
Tuesday 26 March 2013 — Category: Outings
Sun and Sand In Central California, my very first photo outing for 2013 took place during the first few days of the new year, which I spent on the Central Coast of California. I took pictures in three locations, the first of which was Oso Flaco Lake in the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes, which is only a short drive from where I was staying in Santa Maria.
I made an outing to Oso Flaco about a year ago, the results of which can be seen in the Oso Flaco 2011 photo album. Unlike that previous visit, this time there was a large flock of American White Pelicans enjoying the lake. These huge birds can at times seem almost as graceful as swans, but not quite — their gigantic bills see to that!
Graceful or not, I still got quite a few nice shots of pelicans, as well as other aquatic birds. During my 40 minute stay I took 65 pictures — 26 of which have made it into the Oso Flaco 2013 album. It is interesting to compare the last photo of the two Oso Flaco albums, because they were taken from similar positions on the shore of the lake.
Because all of the 26 photos except one were of birds, I have also launched the new Wildlife 2013 album. Hopefully the entire year will be as fruitful!
Stay tuned, because photos from Grover Beach and Morro Bay will be coming soon!
