October Camera Club Competition Results

Even though I am taking a more relaxed approach to the monthly camera club competitions this year, my photos still seem to be doing well, for the most part.
As I shared in a previous article, the Valley Viewfinders Camera Club (VVCC) I belong to has two competitions per month — one for prints, and the other for electronic images (EID). Last month I entered eight print images, even though I didn’t feel very motivated, and came away with two 1st Place awards, one 2nd and one 3rd.
However, I have never done very will in the EID competitions. Last year, out of a total of 14 electronic images, I won one 2nd, one 3rd, and three 4th Place awards. Well, I guess that’s not too bad, but it doesn’t seem as good as my success with prints. From the time I joined the club about a year ago, I have won twenty 1st Place awards for prints, but NONE for EID!
Since the beginning of the club year last month, my EID entries won a 5th Place award in September, and NOTHING this month! Stiff competition, I guess! But if I am supposedly taking a more relaxed view of competitions, then why am I even concerned about it?
Good question! I like the photos I enter, even if they don’t get chosen for any awards. And as I have mentioned previously, sometimes I win an award for a photo which I don’t think is very good, while at other times a picture I think is wonderful is totally neglected. Fame is fickle and fleeting!
Still, by the end of the club year next June, I would really like to win 1st Place in the EID competitions at least once. But I really don’t know what kind of super shot I’m going to have to come up with in order to achieve that goal. That remains to be seen. Maybe I just don’t have what it takes as a photographer to make the grade.
