California Birds Visit California Byrds
Thursday 7 June 2012   —   Category: Shooting
Yesterday a male and female California Quail decided to stop by for a visit in our backyard. They stayed for a while, walking around, looking for food. As you can see in this photo, the male seems to have found a cozy spot in a pile of fresh planting soil to take a rest. You can click on this picture to see a larger version.

Like yesterday for my shots of the Venus transit, I pulled out the big gun: my Sony 70-400mm f/4-5.6 telephoto lens. Because I didn’t want to scare them away, I made all of my shots through the double-paned windows in our living room. From what I can see of the resulting photos, shooting through these two layers of window glass seemed to reduce the quality, so in general I was not very happy with them. I wish I could have taken the photos outside instead.

Well, at least I got one decent picture. But I really wonder how these two quail knew that they were stopping in the yard of some California Byrds?!
