Pine Mountain 2012 — photo 1 of 12: As I continued on my way from my home in the Willamette Valley to Eastern Oregon, having just left the Sisters-Bend area, I came to Pine Mountain, about 25 miles southeast of Bend. A mile before of the turnoff to drive up to the Pine Mountain Observatory, I stopped along U.S. Route 20 to get a view of this sprawling mountain. It was so big — and I was so close — that I took a series of eleven photos to merge together into the panoramic photo presented here. The mountain stands directly south of where I was taking the pictures, and the view starts on the east side of the mountain, and progresses west 155 degrees. Pine Mountain does not have just one peak, but multiple ones spread out along it's huge expanse. Near one of the high points is the observatory. April 2012. Camera used: Sony Alpha α77 with Sony Carl Zeiss 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom lens. Scroll to the right to see the rest of this panoramic photo.
