*AWARD WINNERS* — photo 1 of 75: A metal crate on the back of a bicycle in the 3900 block of North Mississippi Avenue, in the Historic Mississippi District of Portland, Oregon, August 2016.
Even though I generally don’t enter photo contests anymore — see Fed Up With Photography! — I did enter this and a handful of other pictures into the contest which resulted from the North Mississippi photo outing on August 17, 2016, which was sponsored by Pro Photo Supply and Olympus.
Unfortunately, the submissions had to be posted on Instagram. Despite my great dislike for Instagram, I set up an account and posted 8 of the best photos from this album. Lo and behold, the above photo won first place, which was rewarded with a $25 gift card from Pro Photo Supply. You can read the original announcement in this Pro Photo Supply Instagram post.
I have to point out that hardly any of the other dozen or so Mississippi outing participants bothered to enter this contest by posting their photos on Instagram. Therefore, in a very real sense, I won by default. Nevertheless, I still think I took a good picture, and I still won the $25 gift card!
