McMenamins St. Francis Interiors 2017 — photo 50 of 62: “The Place It Started” by Hadley Ferguson is one of many works of art gracing the walls of McMenamins Old St. Francis School in downtown Bend, Oregon. May 2017. About this painting Hadley wrote:
This piece illustrates some of my favorite past McMenamins paintings, the process I work through to create a painting, and some of my most recent work in Montana. In the painting I am working in my studio at home. Behind me I have past McMenamins works taped up on the wall, each image labeled with what it is and where it was painted. I also have this current painting propped up on my easel and it is in mid-process with some of the shading mapped in, and the design and several reference images are taped to the board. I often work from many images early in the painting process. I’m working at the table, reading through research material, and working on designs for the women’s murals that I recently completed for the Montana State Capitol Building. In the design process, I spend a lot of time researching and drafting designs. I included the State Capitol project because it is the most important work I have done and I wouldn’t have had such an opportunity had I not had the experience with McMenamins. My work those first few years in Portland gave me the gift of creativity, drive, skill and a supportive community to dream and fulfill my greatest dream.Camera used: Olympus OM-D E-M5 with Panasonic Lumix 12-35mm f/2.8 zoom lens.
