McMenamins St. Francis Interiors 2017 — photo 33 of 62: “The Curtains Blew Open And It Was The 80’s” by McMenamins artist Reeva Wortel is one of many works of art gracing the walls of their Old St. Francis School in downtown Bend, Oregon. May 2017. About this painting Reeva wrote:
This painting was inspired by the ’80s Video Dance Attack hosted by VJ Kittyrox that has been happening since 2005 at McMenamins Crystal Ballroom in downtown Portland. I have training as a contemporary dancer and theater artist, and I love trying to imbue my paintings with movement and theatrics. I have attended ’80s Night at the Crystal Ballroom on several occasions and I was always struck by the amount of joy and fun people were having on the dance floor. Somehow what remains of the era of ’80s music and ’80s dance is all about dressing up in crazy bright colors and dancing in your own funky, weird and wild way. In this painting I have tried to capture that joy and fun!Camera used: Olympus OM-D E-M5 with Panasonic Lumix 12-35mm f/2.8 zoom lens.
