Non-McMenamins Beer (All Years) — photo 48 of 73: A bomber bottle of Kölsch by Ordnance Brewing which I found at the astonishing John’s Marketplace beer and wine shop in the Multnomah Village district of Southwest Portland, Oregon. According to the brewer:
“This ale in lager clothing is our take on an old German style. Of course we revamped the droll style with a little northwestern malt backbone. If you’re looking for an easy drinking anytime beer, this one goes down smooth.” Measurements: 5.5% ABV • 16 IBU
I’ve tried nearly a dozen Kölsches over the past few years, and this is one of the best ... right up there with McMenamins Confessional Kölsch. I would definitely buy it again. July 2017.

SEPTEMBER 2017 UPDATE: After having it a second time, I have totally changed my mind! I don’t like this beer after all, because I found it has a slight banana taste. I’m guessing that by calling this beer “German style” the brewers have used some sort of German yeast which produces that flavor. It is not a strong as the overpowering banana taste of a German wheat beer, but it is still noticeable. As I have said before, I want my beer to taste like beer, not bananas! I for sure will not be buying this beer again.
