McMenamins Beer (All Years) — photo 81 of 140: Old Growth Double Brown was one of six samples in the beer flight I tried at the McMenamins Mill Creek Brewpub in the northern Seattle metro area suburb of Mill Creek, Washington. According to the brewer:
“Inspired by the vast woodlands of the Cascade Range, we made a brown ale and put our own high gravity twist on it. This transformed the beer into a strong ale, and more specifically, an old ale.  Which, given the name, has been around for very long time. This ale features flavors of deep caramel, brown sugar and toffee.” Measurements: 8.3% ABV • 38 IBU
My notes from that day read: “It didn’t taste so much like caramel or toffee (which I like) as it did coffee (which I don’t) or something along that line ... not so great.” 1 August 2017. Camera used: Olympus OM-D E-M5 with Olympus 12-100mm f/4.0 zoom lens.
