McMenamins Beer (All Years) — photo 16 of 100: A sample of Cantankerous Coot Old Ale which I tried on the covered patio at the back of the McMenamins Old Church and Pub restaurant, located in the southern Portland metro area city of Wilsonville, Oregon, on a very cold and rainy St. Patrick’s Day 2017. According to the brewer:
“This ornery old ale boasts complex notes of caramel, plum, molasses and hop spice. A robust malt body supports a balanced hop presence before fading to a warm finish. At nearly ten percent alcohol, this rich autumn warmer is perfect for shaking off the cold and putting a smile on even the grouchiest face!” Measurements: 9.2% ABV • 42 IBUMy notes from that day read: “I wanted to like this, but it is not my style ... it tasted a bit like medicine ... I would never get a pint!” I also tried a sample of Liquid Sunshine Wheat but forgot to take a picture of it.
