Black and White 2017 — photo 6 of 39: A statue of John McLoughlin at the Willamette Falls Scenic Viewpoint on McLoughlin Boulevard (OR 99E) in Oregon City, at the southern end of the Portland metro area. May 2017. The plaque on it reads:
Dr. John McLoughlin
“Father of Oregon”
Born in Rivière du Loup, Canada, October 19, 1784
1825   Came to the Oregon Country as chief factor of the Columbia Department of the Hudson’s Bay Company.
1829Located his claim to the present site of Oregon City.
1845Resigned his position with the Hudson’s Bay Company and moved to Oregon City.
1846Built his house in Oregon City, which is now a National Historic Site.
1850Filed first plat of Oregon City.
1851Became a citizen of the United States.
1857September 3, died. Is buried with his wife, Margaret, in St. John’s Church, Oregon City.
Actually, from what I can tell, their graves are at the McLoughlin House, not at St. John’s Church. That’s where I found them!
