Portland Panoramas 2015 — photo 17 of 21: This 18-photo panorama was taken around Mile Post 1 of the Springwater Corridor on the east bank of the Willamette River, opposite the north end of Ross Island and just south of the Ross Island Bridge in Portland, Oregon.
Looking west on the far left we have the impressive condo and apartment high-rises of Portland’s South Waterfront. The radio tower over the first building is the one on top of Sentinel Hill near the Healy Heights neighborhood. Then, from left to right, the first six high-rises are The Ardea, Atwater Place, the John Ross Tower, the two Meriwether Towers, and the last but not least, the Mirabella Tower.
Continuing right, on the hill is the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The next radio tower is the one at Council Crest Park, and the foreground building right below it is the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Center for Health & Healing. To its right in the background are more buildings of the OHSU campus on Marquam Hill, including the Shriners Hospital for Children.
Gazing northwest across the Willamette River three bridges are in view. First and foremost is the Ross Island Bridge, which carries U.S. Route 26. The large building hidden behind the left-most arch support is the OHSU Collaborative Life Sciences Building. To the right of it begins the west end of the brand new, as-yet-unopened, artistic Tilikum Crossing. Behind it is the double-decker Marquam Bridge which carries the I-5.
Further in the background are the numerous skyscrapers of downtown Portland. The only ones sticking up above the Ross Island Bridge are the 41-floor, 546-foot Wells Fargo Center, the tallest building in Oregon, and in front of it, the orangish, 35-floor, 509-foot KOIN Center, the third-tallest in the state.
