I went for a hike at the nearby William L. Finley National Wildlife Refuge twice during 2011: once in May, and then again in September. This Refuge includes 713 acres a natural grassland, called the Willamette Floodplain, that was made a National Natural Landmark in 1987. This type of native grassland has become exceedingly rare as most of it has been cultivated or converted to pastureland. I didn't take a huge number of photos, but I did get some beautiful shots in the early-morning light.
