Just before Christmas, OregonLive.com
— the online presence of Portland-based The Oregonian,
the largest newspaper in the Pacific Northwest
— published an article of their best food photos of 2015.
As I browsed their images, I noticed that quite a few of them seemed dull and flat due to underexposure. Because there is a continuing controversy these days about the ethical use of image manipulation in photojournalism,
I don’t think these photographers had the same freedom that I do to adjust their pictures to make them look their best.
Still, I couldn’t help thinking that many of the food photos I took this year look as good, or sometimes even better, than the images presented on OregonLive. That thought led to the idea of creating my own “best food photos of 2015” gallery. So I went through the nearly 250 images in the Food & Cooking 2015
album and marked those which I felt were among the best.
My top 50 food photos of the year can now be viewed in this album. Although I am not a professional photographer, I think that my images hold their own against those of The Oregonian. But no matter how you slice it, 2015 was a great year for the cooking, eating and photographing of food!
