I’ve always enjoyed eating good food, so early in my adult life I had to learn how to cook
good food. During college, while my roommates were barely surviving on “food” like peanut butter, hot dogs, and canned beans, I was making homemade bread, lasagna, enchiladas, waffles, and numerous other dishes. Throughout a quarter-century of marriage I have been quite active in the kitchen and have developed my skills further.
This year my culinary creativity has been reaching new heights. Ideas for dishes and meals seem to just pop into my head, and most of them turn out quite well. I have also had the desire to learn new skills, like making my own Bavarian soft pretzels, and my own pub mustard to go with them.
Although I have not used cookbooks much in the past, I have also picked up a couple by Portland-based food writer Andrea Slonecker.
I guess “buy local” can apply to recipes as well as fresh food! I have also been trying some new restaurants in the Portland area this year.
As a photographer, I enjoy capturing and showing off the good food I am enjoying, whether it was made by myself or someone else. Food photographed well is a work of art in itself. I don’t claim to be an expert at it, but I’ve been having fun experimenting with food photography over the past months.
I have now come to the point where I have enough pictures of food that they deserve their own album. Many of the photos of food which I have cooked have already appeared in the Homemade Images 2015
album. Other food pictures have been included in the various Portland-outing albums I have been creating. These food photos still appear in those albums, but they are also collected here so that they can all be found in one location. Bon appétit!
For more food photography, be sure to take a look at the new Food & Cooking (All Years)
album. Not only does it contain all of the photos in this album, but also five food pictures from previous years. In the future, it will automatically gather together all of the food photos I take in the coming years.
UPDATE — With all of the cooking I’ve been doing, this album has already become crowded! Therefore, I have grouped some of the photos into more specific albums in an effort to organize them a bit better:
