We had been to Clear Lake
numerous times over the four years we have lived in Oregon, but for some reason it never occured to us to walk along the McKenzie River
which flows south out of the lake. But finally in October 2010 we discovered what we had been missing!
Along the way we were treated to spectacular views of the 73-foot Sahalie Falls
and the 64-foot Koosah Falls,
as well as other gorgeous scenery in this river canyon. It's really amazing to see the large quantity of water that is still flowing down this river so late in the year. The snows have all melted long ago, and it has not rained very much all summer, yet the torrents keep rushing and pouring minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day, week after week, month after month! I wonder where all that water comes from?
